Nano Textiles

More developments in nano-engineered fabrics, with more technology applied to clothing.
Its not a new thing in the science field(see Nano-tex), but has yet to reach mass public awareness.

"In my group we use carbon nanotubes to enhance mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of conventional and nanofibers," he said. "We have been collaborating with the Biomedical Engineering and Physics departments to develop tissue engineering scaffolds for cell growth and differentiation."

Molecular memory breakthrough using nanowires

Jan. 25, 2007 -- A team of UCLA and California Institute of Technology chemists reported in the Jan. 25 issue of the journal Nature the successful demonstration of a large-scale, "ultra-dense" memory device that stores information using reconfigurable molecular switches. This research represents an important step toward the creation of molecular computers that are much smaller and could be more powerful than today's silicon-based computers.

The 160-kilobit memory device uses interlocked molecules manufactured in the UCLA laboratory of J. Fraser Stoddart, director of the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI), who holds UCLA's Fred Kavli Chair in Nanosystems Sciences.

More companies going for nanotechnology

It's a great news article to introduce nanotechnology to anyone, even if it doesn't add much to people already informed about the nano world:

Startups aim big with nano

Nanoparticles could be the key to treating diseases or creating incredible new energy sources. They're already used in products such as computer processors, stain-resistant pants and cosmetics.

Within a decade, 2 million workers globally could be employed in nanotech-related jobs that produce more than a trillion dollars worth of goods annually, according to a government estimate.

Nanometrics (NANO - Nasdaq)

Nanometrics touched new lows this year, but still reacting to the $7.93 support made in the last week of 2006, and probably finding key support at these prices.

Nanometrics widened its losses in the last two quarters, coming from a profitable 2005 year, into a loss in 2006. Maybe 2007 hold better days for NANO but its still a risk buying the stock at these levels, until we see a change in the trend, even if it starts looking to be undervalued.

Meanwhile, the PXN (Powershares Lux Nanotech) etf, is still negative for this year but today's move could represent the end of this recent sell-off. The next days should be important to prove this point:

Technically this etf is getting close to its annual trend line support, and I will update its long term chart later this week.
